Clavioline, followed by ukulele and stylophone

I was following my nose on youtube. My start point was 6-Music Introducing’s podcast of 10 December and this brilliant piece of sampled electronic soundscape from Mark Marrington

Mark has also created a tribute tune to Telstar by The Tornados. There are plenty of youtube versions of the song, with some that feature the clavioline: the keyboard instrument that gives Telstar its unique sound. I specially liked this fascinating piece of pop history – the actual clavioline used in Telstar

As I said there are quite a few weird and wonderful versions of Telstar. This one’s not necessarily the best, but it’s not every day this combination of instruments crops up
