I know enough world music to recognise that pretty much anything associated with Mali is likely to be good, or of interest, or both. However I’m not enough of a fan to be familiar with all contemporary music from Mali, or North Africa in general. So I depend on people like Cerys Matthews, on 6 Music, to introduce me to bands such as Tamikrest.

They’ve been around since 2006 and Chatma is their third and current album. They describe themselves as Tuareg, and their music as Saharan blues.

Here’s the song which captivated me on the radio, back in July

Please see these links to their website, to soundcloud, and to wikipedia.
