Man with guitar

In 1980 I met PP at university. His level of musical sophistication was such that he possessed a cassette of Roy Harper’s 1969 album Folkjokeopus. Two tracks stand out for me, and I fell in love with them at that point. I ‘borrowed’ PP’s cassette, and have it to this day.

One is 18 minutes long and has been described elsewhere on this blog as one of the most extraordinary songs ever written. It may not be everybody’s cup of tea though, so let’s go with One For All, which is much more accessible. This live version surfaced recently and has a pleasing simplicity about it. There’s a suggestion it’s for Norwegian TV and dates from 1969 or 1970
