Siouxsie – 3 of 7 – Switch

If Happy House is ‘classic Siouxsie’ then Switch is ‘proper Siouxsie’, taken as it is from astounding 1978 debut album The Scream.

Time was when I’d solemnly declare The Scream as one of the best albums of all time. I no longer include such statements in general conversation but that doesn’t make it any less true. The album received huge critical acclaim and inspired comments like these:

  • Strong, abrasive, visceral and constantly inventive (Melody Maker).
  • Uncompromising, powerful and disturbing, yet so captivating and enjoyable (Kris Needs).
  • Siouxsie’s staggering voice is dropped, clipped, snapped prominently above this audacious musical drama, emphasizing the dark colours and empty, naked moods (Paul Morley).
