MacArthur Park

I’ve previously posted Donna Summer’s version – which I always took to be the original. Wikipedia put me right indicating it was performed first by Richard Harris in 1968. Lyrical content often passes me by, so nor did I know that the song is well known – and often looked down upon – for daft lyrics: love being likened to ‘a cake left out in the rain’.

The song is about a park in Los Angeles, and Richard Harris gets it wrong each time he sings MacArthur’s Park – with an apostrophe ess. The video is related only in depicting the same era and notably includes Brigitte Bardot
